Biography
Amanda Tavares is a Research Fellow at IHA. Her current project, “Food, Migration and Contemporary Art: New Perspectives on Interculturality, Hospitality and Participation in the European Context”, is funded by Fundação da Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT, CEEC 7ª edição).
Amanda is the author of ‘Visualising the Mediterranean: Unlearning and Imagining through Contemporary Art’ (Liverpool University Press, 2027), and the editor of two special journal issues (forthcoming) on archives and contemporary art. She has previously held postdoctoral positions in Portugal and the UK, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, the University of Sheffield, and the British Academy/Nuffield Foundation.
With experience of transdisciplinary projects, Amanda is particularly interested in how artistic practice can renegotiate tropes about migration, imperialism and interculturality. Her work also focuses on the role of installations, performance and multimedia art as spaces for political awareness and social engagement.
