Biography
Andreia Magalhães is the artistic director of the Centro de Arte Oliva, appointed in 2017. She oversees the exhibition programme, management of the collection and coordination of the institution’s projects. Since 2000 she has worked with different museum institutions, such as the Museum of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the Soares dos Reis National Museum and has cooperated on editorial and collection study projects for Serralves. She has worked with various international museums within the framework of her research and curatorial interests, focusing on the relationship between visual arts and the cinema, with the Netherlands Institute for Media Art, the Museums of Modern Art, of New York and San Francisco, and the MAC-USP in São Paulo. She has a PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), where she conducted her research between Portugal and the United States, as part of a mixed research programme developed partly at MoMA, in New York. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at FBAUP, lecturing in the field of Modern and Contemporary Art Studies and Curatorship. Her curatorial projects, developed at the CAO, include Jaime, I saw one of my female dogs with wolves (2021); Light Beam: projected sculpture, exposed cinema (2022), Parallel cultures (2023, FBAUP); Gaëlle Rouard: flaming darkness (2023) and Renato Ferrão: Für Fur Fur Fúria de Viver (2024).

Andreia Magalhães é diretora artística do Centro de Arte Oliva desde 2017, onde é responsável pelo programa de exposições, gestão das coleções e coordenação dos projetos da instituição. Desde 2000, tem trabalhado com diferentes instituições museológicas, como o Museu da Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto e, o Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, além de ter colaborado em projetos editoriais e de estudo da coleção com o Museu de Serralves. Colaborou com diferentes museus internacionais, no âmbito específico dos seus interesses de investigação e curadoria, com foco na relação entre artes visuais e cinema, incluindo o Netherlands Institute for Media Art, os museus de Arte Moderna de Nova Iorque e S. Francisco, e o MAC-USP, em São Paulo. É doutorada pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (FBAUP), tendo realizado a sua investigação entre Portugal e os Estados Unidos no âmbito de um programa de investigação misto desenvolvido parcialmente no MoMA. É Professora Auxiliar Convidadade Estudos de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea e de Curadoria na FBAUP. Entre os seus projetos de curadoria desenvolvidos no CAO destacam-se: Jaime, vi uma cadela minha com lobos (2021); Feixe de luz: escultura projetada, cinema exposto (2022), Culturas paralelas (2023, FBAUP); Gaëlle Rouard: escuridão flamejante (2023) e Renato Ferrão: Für Fur Fur Fúria de Viver (2024).
