Joana d’Oliva Monteiro holds a PhD in Art History (Museology and Artistic Heritage – NOVA FCSH) since June 2017. Her thesis, entitled An operational model for the evaluation of art exhibitions. A case study: the National Museum of Ancient Art, was supported by a grant awarded in response to a competitive call (SFRS/BD/70448/2010) funded by FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology. The thesis was associated with the research project entitled Sources for History of Art Museums in Portugal (PTDC/EAT-MUS/101463/2008). She holds a degree in Art History and Heritage (FLUL, 2006) and a Master’s degree in Museology (NOVA FCSH, 2010). Her dissertation, entitled Gallery of Temporary Exhibitions of the Alcobaça Monastery – reflections and contributions towards the exhibiting speech was awarded the Best Museology Study Prize, by the Portuguese Museology Association. Since 2006, she developed collaborative work with a number of public and private cultural institutions, which has enabled her to obtain a wider view on researching, exhibiting, editing, communication and dissemination. She was also involved in several exhibition projects, from 2006 to 2010, with the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça (DGPC), and have worked closely with the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea (MNAC), in Lisbon, on a research project with the current museum director, focusing on a statistical analysis of the representativeness of women artists in the museum’s exhibitions.
