Biography
Sofia Braga has a degree in Art History (School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, 1998), a master degree in Art History, Heritage and Theory of Restoration (School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, 2012) and a Ph.D. in Art History (School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, 2021), with the thesis: «Behold the talented painter, Master Cyrillo, great in the lesson, and in the style»: Artistic dynamics in the work of Cyrillo Volkmar Machado (1748-1823). She is an integrated researcher of the “Lisbon Studies” Research Group in the Art History Institute, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – School of Social Sciences and Humanities / IN2PAST – Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory. Her research areas focus the late modern and early contemporary mural painting, the fine-arts academicism, and the early historiography of art.

Doutorada em História da Arte (2021), pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa (FLUL), com uma tese sobre a vida e obra artística de Cyrillo Volkmar Machado; Mestre em Arte, Património e Teoria do Restauro (FLUL, 2012), com um tema sobre pintura de tectos e paredes em dois palácios lisboetas; Curso de Conservação e Restauro de Pintura Antiga, pelo Instituto de Artes e Ofícios (2010); Licenciatura em História – Variante de História da Arte (FLUL, 1998), com um trabalho de final de curso dedicado ao estudo iconográfico do Salão Pompeia no Palácio da Ega; Bacharelato em Marketing e Publicidade, pela Faculdade de Design, Tecnologia e Comunicação (1993).
Tem-se dedicado ao estudo da pintura de tectos e paredes a partir do século XVII. Foca-se igualmente em temas relacionados com Academias de Arte, Colecionismo, Humanidades, Conservação e Restauro do Património Cultural.
