Biography
Marta Soares holds an MA and a PhD in Art History by the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Since 2014, Marta has collaborated with exhibits on Portuguese modernism organized by the Millennium bcp Foundation, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Pompidou Centre (Paris). With Raquel Henriques da Silva, she curated the exhibition Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso / Porto Lisboa / 2016 – 1916, on display at the Soares dos Reis National Museum (in 2016) and at the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Museu do Chiado (in 2017).
She was a member of the research projects “PIM – Iberian Modernisms and the Modernist Imagination” (PTDC/ART-HIS/29837/2017) and “Magic Lantern: Study, preservation, use and reuse in Portugal in the 19th century” (PTDC/ART-PER/1702/2021), having been a postdoctoral research fellow for the latter. She is currently part of the team of the exploratory project “Mural in Motion: Lime, Pigments, and Pixels – Bringing Modern Mural Heritage Back to Public Life: A Critical Approach to Computational and Digital Tools for Art Historical Curatorship” (2023.11110.PEX).
Her main areas of interest revolve around modernism, art historiography, theory and historiography of animation, having published several articles, chapters and participated in conferences on these subjects.

Marta Soares é mestre e doutorada em História da Arte pela NOVA FCSH.
Desde 2014 que tem vindo a colaborar com a Fundação Millennium bcp, a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e o Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, no âmbito de exposições sobre arte moderna portuguesa. Comissariou, com Raquel Henriques da Silva, a exposição Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso / Porto Lisboa / 2016 – 1916, patente no Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis (2016) e no Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea – Museu do Chiado (2017).
Foi membro dos projetos de investigação PIM – “Modernismos Ibéricos e o Imaginário Modernista” (PTDC/ART-HIS/29837/2017) e “Lanterna Mágica: Estudo, preservação, uso e reúso em Portugal no século XIX” (PTDC/ART-PER/1702/2021), tendo sido bolseira de investigação pós-doutoral do último. Atualmente integra a equipa do projeto exploratório “Mural in Motion: Cal, Pigmentos e Píxeis – Para a Reintegração do Património Mural Moderno na Vida Pública: uma Abordagem Crítica à Curadoria Digital para a História da Arte” (2023.11110.PEX), que explora a aplicação da animação como ferramenta da curadoria digital e da comunicação de ciência.
As suas principais áreas de interesse orbitam em torno do modernismo, da historiografia da arte, da teoria e historiografia da animação, tendo publicado vários artigos, capítulos e participado em conferências sobre estes assuntos.
