Biography
Carla Varela Fernandes is Assistant Professor of Medieval Art History and Iconography at the Department of History of Art at the FCSH, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. She holds a PhD in History of Medieval Art (2005-FLUL-Lisboa) on the iconography of the Portuguese royal family between the 12th and the 14th century. Medieval sculpture and iconography are the areas to which she has devoted most of her studies and publications, in Portugal and abroad.

Carla Varela Fernandes é Professora Auxiliar de História da Arte Medieval e Iconografia no Departamento de História da Arte na FCSH da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. É doutorada e História da Arte Medieval (2005-FLUL-Lisboa) sobre iconografia da família real portuguesa entre os séculos XII a XIV. Escultura e iconografia medievais são as áreas a que tem dedicado a maioria dos seus estudos e publicações, em Portugal e no estrangeiro.
