Biography
Sílvia Pinto Coelho is an integrated researcher at ICNOVA and a collaborator of IHA and INET-md at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, a degree in Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in Dance.
As a choreographer and dancer, she has studied various dance styles and techniques, as well as composition and improvisation. Since 1996, she has consistently presented her own choreographic works and participated in research and educational projects, as well as in films, collaborating with professionals from various fields throughout her career.
Her work focuses on attention and choreographic thinking in Artistic Studies, incorporating approaches from Performance Studies and Anthropology in dialogue with Artistic Research.
She is an invited teacher at Lusófona University, where she teaches practical and theoretical seminars related to the Performing Arts.  
At ICNOVA, she is part of the Performance and Cognition group, served on the INTERACT editorial board (2019–2024), and led the Procrastination School project [https://procrastinationschool.fcsh.unl.pt/].
She takes part in informal art, thought, and activism groups like baldio-performance studies, AND_Lab, SenseLab, Transpensar, and Es.Col.Az.
From 2025 to 2026, she has been working on the publication of a thematic issue for the Journal of Communication and Languages, focused on movements of attention: https://cadencesattentionalmoves.fcsh.unl.pt/
