Biography

Sónia Talhé Azambuja obtained a degree in landscape architecture from the School of Agriculture (ISA) and pursued studies at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, concluding her Master’s in Art and PhD in History of Art. She currently holds the position of a Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at the (ISA) University of Lisbon and at the (FCT) University of Algarve. She is a researcher at CEABN-InBio/ISA/ULisboa and a collaborator with IHA/NOVA/FCSH (Lisbon Studies Research Group) and ARTIS/IHA/FL/ULisboa. Received three awards from Archiprix Portugal, ans also was honoured with the Lisbon European Green Capital 2020 Award granted by the Lisbon City Council. She is currently the President of the Friends of the Ajuda Botanical Garden Association (AAJBA) and, since 2010, has been coordinating the conservation and restoration works of the Ajuda Botanical Garden. Sónia Talhé Azambuja was International Member of ICOMOS/IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes (2009–2019). Author of two books on the symbolism of nature and landscape.

Sónia Talhé Azambuja nasceu em Lisboa, a 20 de dezembro de 1974, licenciou-se em Arquitetura Paisagista pelo Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) em 2000, e obteve os graus de mestrado (2006) e de doutoramento (2015) em Arte, Património e Restauro pela Faculdade de Letras da ULisboa. É professora universitária convidada há 21 anos, sendo atualmente Professora Auxiliar Convidada de Arquitetura Paisagista do Instituto Superior de Agronomia da Universidade de Lisboa (ISA/ULisboa, desde 2008), e da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade do Algarve (FCT/UAlg, desde 2003), onde é regente de História da Arte Contemporânea, História da Arte dos Jardins, e História e Teoria da Arquitetura Paisagista. Leciona também no Doutoramento em Arquitetura Paisagista e Ecologia Urbana do ISA/ULisboa, FC/UPorto e UCoimbra. É Investigadora do CEABN-InBio/ISA/ULisboa (Rede de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Biologia Evolutiva) e colaboradora do IHA/NOVA/FCSH (Grupo de Investigação Lisbon Studies) e do ARTIS/IHA/FL/ULisboa. Foi Secretária-geral da direção da Associação Portuguesa dos Arquitetos Paisagistas-APAP (2016-2020). Atualmente, é Presidente da Associação dos Amigos do Jardim Botânico da Ajuda (AAJBA) e, desde 2010, coordena as obras de conservação e restauro do Jardim Botânico da Ajuda. Foi ainda membro internacional do ICOMOS-IFLA – International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes (2009-2019). Já orientou 34 dissertações de mestrado em Arquitetura Paisagista e, foi distinguida como professora da ULisboa e da UAlg pelo Júri do Prémio Archiprix Portugal com a Menção Especial de Arquitetura Paisagista -2.º Prémio (2024), a Menção Honrosa (2024), e o Diploma de Reconhecimento de Mérito (2020). Recebeu o Galardão de Lisboa Capital Verde Europeia 2020 atribuído pela Câmara Municipal de Lisboa. Membro de Equipa de Estudo e Projeto Restauro dos Tetos da Sé do Funchal que foi ditinguida com o Prémio Gulbenkian Património – Maria Tereza e Vasco Vilalva 2022, e Prémio da European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra 2023, na categoria de Conservation and Adaptive Reuse Europa Nostra. Curadora da Exposição 80 Anos de Ensino de Arquitetura Paisagista em Portugal (1942-2022): Arte e Ecologia. É autora dos livros A Linguagem Simbólica da Natureza. A Flora e Fauna na Pintura Seiscentista Portuguesa (1.ª ed. Lisboa: Nova Vega, 2009; 2.ª ed. Lisboa: Scribe, 2017), Plantas, Animais e Paisagem.
