Festival de l’histoire de l’art (14th edition)
6-8 June, 2025
Fontainebleau (France)
Website: https://www.festivaldelhistoiredelart.fr/
Over the course of 3 days, the Festival of Art History offers more than 250 events (conferences, round tables, film screenings, exhibitions, a book fair, etc.) reflecting the richness of the visual arts from all periods. It allows specialists, students and art enthusiasts to meet in the exceptional setting of the Château de Fontainebleau to discuss current research in art history.
Each edition revolves around a guest country and an artistic theme, sparking an international and cultural dialogue between researchers, artists, curators, filmmakers, publishers and other personalities from the art world. This unique event brings together more than 300 speakers and thousands of participants. It is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and organized by the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA) and the Château de Fontainebleau.
International Student Meetings:
For the 4th year, the International Student Meetings will take the form of a research seminar linked to the guest country of this edition (Austria) and will also include free participation in the festival. Organized in partnership with the German Center for Art History in Paris, the National Institute for Art History, the University of Vienna, and the Interdisciplinary Center for Studies and Research on Germany, these meetings aim to foster connections, dialogue, and collaboration between students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers from Austrian, European, and French universities.
This seminar will be structured in two sessions:
-
The first session will take place from Monday, May 5, to Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Vienna. Over three days, seminars, meetings with cultural professionals, and discussions with art historians will provide participants with the opportunity to explore collections, exhibitions, and archival resources related to Austria. The working language will be English.
-
The second session will take place during the festival, from Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8, at the Château de Fontainebleau. Participants will be able to attend conferences, roundtable discussions, professional meetings, and various other events that make up the festival’s rich program.
