Description
The ArtTHC research group studies theory and historiography, and the relation between them. Within this framework, we particularly study pivotal concepts in art theory, historiography and criticism; politics and practices of theory (visual culture, urban design and architecture); avant-gardes and modernisms’ narratives and aporias. These approaches take into special consideration Portuguese or Portuguese-related art and architectural theories, histories and criticism, debating the terms of their inscription in the broader world of art history writing. While considering the global challenges and debates of the discipline — including the challenges brought on by ever evolving digital humanities technologies and de- and post-colonial methodologies — the transnational framework of group’s research also sets the ground for discussing local specificities from a global art historical perspective.
ArtTHC’s team is firmly committed to developing research with a marked international dimension that contributes to promote quality education locally. In addition to attracting FCSH’s graduate students to ongoing research projects, the group’s members offer undergraduate, MA and PhD seminars at the school’s programmes in Art History and Urban Studies Theory.
